OUR 32 WEEK PRENATAL APPOINTMENT

Funny picture, right? What the heck is that woman doing???? She's doing exactly what my Midwife did at our latest prenatal last Friday!!! Renee did not have her doppler on hand to listen to Baby Miles' heart beat. Instead she brought this handy dandy little contraption called a Fetoscope. It's basically a stethoscope that is used to monitor fetal heart rate. I personally found this HI-LARRY-US!!! Why on earth would you need to use your forehead to listen??? According to Renee, there is some connection to the bones in the forehead and the correct amount of pressure needed to hear the heart beat properly. Ok -- but it's still funny as all get out!!! All laughing aside -- Baby Miles is still doing really well and he has the strongest most beautiful heart beat!!! Jason was able to feel Miles' head again and it appears that our little bundle of boy's head is nestled very low in my pelvic girdle. This is such exciting news -- and means I won't likely drop too much more as he is about as low he can get. There is nothing breech about this baby!!! Of course, the pain in my ribs has been an indication all along that his little feet have been up at the top of my uterus for a long time now. The pain is so worth it, though. I can't wait to hold him!!! The rest of our appointment consisted of getting referrals for pediatricians and urologists (for the circumcision) and writing down a list of all of the items that we will need to have on hand for Miles' Birthday!!!! With only 8 weeks left to go, we really have a lot of preparation to do!!!

32 WEEKS PREGNANT!!!!

Your baby now weighs approximately 3.75 pounds/ 1.7 kilograms and is about 17 inches/ 42 centimetres long from head to toe. Although his lungs won't be fully developed until just before birth, your little one is inhaling amniotic fluid to exercise his lungs and practise breathing. Some babies have a head of hair already, others have only a few wisps. Thick hair at birth doesn't necessarily mean thick hair later on but children with fine hair in childhood usually have thinner hair in adulthood. If your baby is a boy, his testicles should be descending from his abdomen into his scrotum. Sometimes however, one or both testicles won't move into position until after birth. In two-thirds of all baby boys who have undescended testicles at birth, the condition corrects itself by the boy's first birthday.

You're probably gaining a pound/ 450 grams a week, largely because your baby is likely to gain more than half his birthweight during the seven weeks before birth. Make sure you are eating well in these last few weeks.

WHAT'S IN A NAME???

I was kicking back, loving on the baby, and I realized that I don't think I ever officially announced his name!!! We've been calling him by it since I was 18 weeks pregnant and we've had it picked out since before he was conceived!!! I'm pretty sure that everyone already knows it -- but I will announce it officially -- just for the heck of it!!! Drum roll please -- our little bundle of boy has officially been named -- MILES ALEXANDER KOITER!!! Like I said -- since week 18 he has been lovingly referred to as "Baby Miles" and we are so in love with the name. Most people agree -- and we've been really blessed by the out pouring of support and love for the name. Of course, there are those few people who sneer or make rude comments because they think that it matters to us that they don't like the name -- but it doesn't. It's like Nana Bernero said -- she likes it and that's all that should matter!!! ;0) Beside the fact that the name is simultaneously cute and distinguished, we also love the meaning behind it. Miles is of Latin origin and means Soldier or Warrior and Alexander means Defender of Humankind. He's our little Soldier of Humankind!!! Miles means merciful in german, as well, so you could even say that he's A Merciful Soldier of Humankind!!! What a strong and honorable name!!! He's also named after one the greatest music legends of all time -- Mr. Davis himself. Of course, none of that really matters, because he could have no name and he'd till be the most incredible baby ever!!!!

By the way -- this is what my belly looks like at almost 31 weeks. HUGE difference from my 28 week belly!!! Baby Miles continues to grow everyday -- and my internal organs continue to squish!!!! I will post again at 32 weeks!!!

CO-ED BABY SHOWER FUN!!!

Jason and I are having such a blast planning out our self-thrown co-ed baby shower. We wanted to have a party that we could both be involved in and a way to celebrate the arrival of our baby bundle with ALL of our friends -- guys included. So we decided that 2 seperate baby showers was the way to go. The beautiful and kindhearted Whitney Kershaw is in the throws of planning a very exciting "Girls Only" shower in our honor and we are planning this one. I have to admit that it

took us some time to come up with a celebration theme that wouldn't be a complete dud with the fellas. I had a feeling that diaper cakes and cutesie baby games wouldn't go over well. So we came up with the theme of all themes. "A Star is Born"!!! We are holding a red carpet event in honor of the future premier of baby Miles Alexander Koiter!!! We have such a cool night planned, including the ever popular red carpet pre-show. We made this really cool backdrop to interview and photograph our guests in front of as they arrive on the red carpet. We plan to make a video of all of the nights events so that we can have something to show Miles when he's older. Of course -- we couldn't help but ham it up in for eachother after we completed the backdrop. Miles is going to look back at these pictures one day and be horrified at what dorks his mommy and daddy are. I'll just remind him that this was just a small example of how much we loved him before even arrived. We're really excited about how well this part of the project came out and I can't wait to share more details and pictures with you as we get them. For now I will tell you that we plan on having "non girlie" food, beer & wine, and a few guy friendly games. I'll save the details for another post!!! Until then --

EXCUSE ME -- BUT COULD YOU GET YOUR FOOT OUT OF MY DIAPHRAGM?!?!?

Yyyyyyouch!!! Baby Miles has made a permanent home for his feet in my rib and diaphragm area. Several times a day I find myself trying to push his not so little feet down and out of my lungs. It's one of those not so pleasant experiences in this miraculous journey. I wonder if he's in there saying "Hey -- stop pushing my feet lady -- I'm cozy in here!!!" or "Geez -- I'm just trying to spread out a little -- you know -- get in some stretching!!!" It's all the other amazing ways that he moves in my belly that makes the rib jabs uber worth it, though. As uncomfortable as those kicks can be -- I honestly wouldn't trade them for world. When my belly starts moving around like jello I get giddy knowing that our beautiful, healthy little boy is strong enough to really knock the wind out of his mommy. Or at the very least it makes me feel slightly vomitous!!! He really is getting strong and his daddy loves to put his head on my belly so that he can get a jab or two on the cheeks. Only 73 days to go...... ahhhhhhhh.....

OUR 28 WEEK BELLY PIC

I know we're already coming up on 30 weeks and this picture is long over due, but here it is!!! There is baby Miles all cozied up in my small basketball shaped belly!!! Thanks to Jason's amazing memory -- we did actually remember to take this picture at 28 weeks, it just took me sometime to work up the desire to hop on the computer and upload it!!!! I know it doesn't look like it, but I have been gaining my pregnancy weight at a text book rate. I have officially added 20lbs to my pre-pregnacy weight and my midwife is very pleased. She and Jason pressed around and examed my belly and were pleased to discover that little Miles is presenting head down at the moment, although he is face forward. I'm hoping that he will remain head down and turn face anterior by the time he arrives. The idea of back labor does not sound appealing to me!!! It was a really exciting prenatal appointment!!! Jason got to to feel the babies head and even a leg. We also listened to the heartbeat once again, and that little ticker is beating like a champ!!! I love meeting with our Midwife -- it's so reassuring to hear Miles' heart beating. It just let's me know that he's doing really well, even though I can't see him. It's probably a good thing that I can't see him -- I'd never get anything done --I'd just stare at him all day long. I don't think anyone would blame me, though.

IT'S BEEN FOREVER SINCE MY LAST POST!!!

I know it has been ages since my last post!!! After my dad was admitted into the hospital for pneumonia I lost track of blogging and now late term pregnancy has me slightly unmotivated to do anything but lounge around in my extra cozy pj's watching episode after episode of X-Files!!! We are closing in on 30 weeks and I am really starting to feel the effects of carrying our little guy around. Mostly just the usual stuff -- fatigue, achey, emotional..... you know. I've also been experiencing a not so common pain in my right back rib cage. I broke a rib several years back and my uterus has grown up and in to it and is causing a significant amountof pain and pressure. My chiropractor says that the way the bone healed, coupled with scar tissue, can cause the pain as well as the possibility that it could be pushed out of alignment. I've been getting adjusted once a week and it helps take the edge off, but it looks like baby Miles and are in it for the long haul. The pain will most likely disappear after the baby is born. Other than that and the fact that my stomach seems to be growing at an alarmingly rapid rate, there's not much else to report. Of course, the heat stinks (100+ degrees) and time seems to be slowing down as we approach the due date. I am so anxious to meet baby Miles. I actually experience moments of deep longing for him. I want to hold him in my arms so badly!!! Only 10 more weeks to go!!!

DATE NIGHT BOOK SHOPPING FOR BABY MILES!!!

Jay Jay and I finally had a chance to go out together for a Friday night date night!!! And you all know what kind of party animals we are!!! We started out our rocking night with a tasty dinner at Panera Bread in a cozy table nestled right next to the fireplace!!! Then we headed over to our local Barnes & Noble to do some book shopping for our little boy!!!! We had such a great time sitting on the floor reading through all of the incredible books that there are for children!!! We flipped through newer books and oldies but goodies. We flipped through books we had never heard of and books that we remember from our own childhoods. We were just a couple of big kids giggling at silly stories and funny rhymes!!!! There were so many books that we wanted to get, but we agreed that we could always go back and get more, and that we would select a few for now!!! We grabbed several books that we adored including the ever precious "I Love You, Daddy" and the to die for "Good Night Moon"!!! There are 3 or 4 more that are incredible as well, but I can't remember the names. I am so excited to start reading these books to Miles!!! Jay Jay is going to read "Good Night Moon" to us tonight and we plan on reading baby Miles good night stories every night from now on!!!! By the time he is here and in our arms he will already know these wonderful stories and they will be such a comfort to him as they will remind of him being snuggled up in his mommies tummy!!! In case you were wondering -- we capped off our date night with ice cream, an episode of X-Files, and some late nigh blogging!!!! Like I said -- PARTY ANIMALS!!!! For now, I'm gonna sign off and go snuggle up to my baby daddy!!!!

GRANDMA LINDA'S SPECIAL GIFT TO BABY MILES!!!!

Baby Miles was such a lucky boy this past week!!! His Grandma Koiter flew 1,000 miles out to California from Colorado Springs and he got to spend some quality time getting to know her voice!!! With his newly found sense of hearing he is able to distinguish different voices now and his Grandma's is no exception. And when Baby Miles finally arrives this fall, he will be able to use his other senses to enjoy this incredible play place that his Grandma got for him while she was here!!!! This amazing gift has four walls that collapse into a tummy time blanket and has a mirror and various different hanging animals and rattles to keep baby entertained. Most importantly, it is loaded with tons of bright primary colors to help with our little guys developement and imagination!!! The Play Place is so easy to put together and take apart and it all folds up for easy storage. Jason and I had the whole thing out and set-up the other night and the only thing that was missing was baby Miles. Chicago would disagree, however, as he had other plans for what should be done with the toys!!! He could not keep his eyeballs off of all those rattles and that googly armed bug!!!! He was a good boy, though, and he kept his paws to himself!!!! I can't wait to place Miles in his Bright Starts Play Place!!! Thank you so much, Linda for such an incredibly beautiful and much needed gift for Miles. You're the best!!! xoxoxoxoxox

ULTRASOUND VIDEO OF BABY MILES!!!

We were treated to such a splendid Ultrasound experience this last time around!!! We were able to see Miles moving around, snuggling against the placenta, playing with the umbilical cord and....well.... playing with his.... 3 leaf clover. One of the biggest treats was glimpsing him smile whenever I would say his name and talk to him. I melted when I realized that he loves to hear his mommies voice!!! We were also able to view him trying put his thumb in his mouth and, as you will see in the video, we caught him sucking on his lower lip!!! I think I may have mentioned this before, but this is a habit that his daddy has!!!! Whenever Jason is deep in thought or working on music, he pulls his lower lip into his mouth. I am blown away at the fact that Miles has never even seen his daddy do that, but that he is already pre-wired to do it. I wonder what other things have been passed on to our little guy by his parents!!! The video is very choppy, but you can definately tell that he is suckiling on his little lip!!!!

NANA & GRANDPA BERNERO'S HILARIOUS ROCKING HORSE ADVENTURE!!!!

Before I get into the hilarious story surrounding this gorgeous rocking horse, I want to say Thank You Thank You Thank You to my parents (and my mom especially) for getting this extraordinary gift for baby Miles. What a stunning piece of furniture/toy!!! You really have to see this horse in person to appreciate the full beauty of it. Nana searched the net for just the right rocking horse and she discovered a rocking horse maker located in Canada who hand carves each and every horse!!! The gentleman who made this piece even signed it. It's truly breathtaking. If you ask my parents dogs what they think of it though, they will tell you that it's TERRIFYING!!!! Well, they would tell you that if they could speak. When my parents told me about Jimmy and Lani's first experience with seeing this "ghastly beast" I was in stitches with laughter!!!! Nana & Grandpa thought, with two puppies bounding through the house, that the rocking horse would be safer if placed somewhere up high where the dogs could not get to it. I can only imagine what that beautiful mane would look like once Jimmy or Lani had their way with it!!!! So they placed the rocking horse on the kitchen counter. Now imagine you are Jimmy, sauntering through the house, a ball in your mouth, as you round the corner to enter the kitchen. Your world is as it should be, except...... WHAT..... IS......THAT??????? Apparently, the ball fell from his mouth as his eyes widened and he panicked at the sight of this gargantuan horse!!! As instinct would have it, he began barking like mad, which prompted Lani to come running. Only, when she made it around the bend into the kitchen she immediately tried to put on the brakes, but the smooth tile was no match!!! She slid headlong into Jimmy. Now we have two almost fully grown doberman's falling all over eachother, barking like mad!!! What a sight that must have been!!! Nana & Granpa said that this hysterical display went on for quite some time before they decided that the best place for the horse would be locked away in the closet where it could no longer torture the dogs!!! I love it!!! Not only does Miles have this beautiful gift from his Nana & Grandpa Bernero, but he will also have this great story as well!!! Thanks again, guys!!! We love you!!!

24 WEEK BABY BUMP PICTURE!!!

From the looks of it -- this kid is planning on continuing to get bigger!!! Our little Miles is already almost 2 pounds and the top of my uterus is sitting right between my ribs and belly button. Our midwife measured my belly yesterday and baby Miles and I are measuring at exactly 24 weeks in size which is perfect perfect perfect!!!! I am very visibly pregnant at this point and am totally loving the added bonus of much larger jubblies!!! I am a little concerned that at their current rate of growth I may end up with jubblies in the E range -- slightly horrifying -- but Jason won't mind ;0)!!! Now that I am noticeably pregnant I am beginning to run into the issues that other pregnant women have warned me about -- rude comments about how "HUGE" I look or will get -- unsolicited opinions on how I should behave and what I should be doing to take care of my body and the baby -- many many MANY hands on the belly (some days you just want to be treated like a person and not like a discovery channel exhibit) -- and many more!!! My favorite one so far --(dufus) "Well at least the baby will be here in 2 short months" (me) "Ummmm -- the baby is arriving in 4 more months" ( dufus) "Oh My God!!! If you're this big already, you're gonna be huge" (me) "Thanks." A lot of people that I work with also seem to think that the baby can understand English (or any other language for that matter) and give me looks of disapproval when we are discussing violent story lines. Apparently I am a bad mother for not pumping my uterus full of classical music during such discussions. My midwife and I had a good laugh at this one. The only thing sweet little Miles understands is my emotions -- and when people presume to know what's best for me and my baby -- it ticks me off -- and Miles knows when mommy is mad!!! With that being said -- there is nothing I love more than playing music for our little guy!!! He loves to move to the sounds and I love to feel him moving. He has even gone to a few of his daddy's rock concerts and let me tell you how much Miles loves to hear his daddy play!!!! I swear it gives me fits of giggles!!!! I love this little boy. I love all of my boys!!! Jay Jay, Chicago, and Miles -- MY BOYS!!!! As far as how I am feeling physically -- I feel amazing!!! Being pregnant is such an incredible experience -- and I am so blessed to be feeling as magnificent as I do. I do think it's time for a prenatal massage and a back and hip adjustment -- my back is starting to feel a little tweaked -- but I know just the right practitioners!!!! Love you all!!!!

WE'VE STARTED OUR CHILDBIRTH CLASSES!!!

Now that we are more than half way on our way to meeting baby Miles, we decided that it was time to get educated on what the heck it is that we are doing. We spent a little time researching our different options for childbirth education classes including Lamaze, Hypnobirthing, Bradley, and few others. I thought that we would end up trying hypnobirthing, but our midwife made some pretty convincing arguments for Bradley and we have decided that Bradley will be our method. We also decided that we will supplement Bradley with a book on hypnobirthing and some educational CD's. For now, however, we have begun taking classes with a wonderful couple in Van Nuys and are really enjoying the whole process of learning how to take care of me, the baby, and how to birth the baby. The whole concept of the Bradley Method is Husband Coached Childbirth with an emphasis on relaxation and deep breathing. I really liked the deep breathing approach to childbirth versus Lamaze's shallow and short breaths (the hee hee hew method). I felt that the Bradley method was much more intuitive and I really liked the fact that they also emphasize nutrition throughout the 12 week course. They are also very big on the importance of the husband's role throughout the entire 10 month process and how the father's participation and presence can greatly enhance the childbirth experience. We are already 4 weeks into classes and loving it. It's so wonderful to have these classes to share together. There's something to be said about having those 2 hours a week where we both let go of all of the things going on our lives and dedicate ourselves to focusing entirely on us, the baby, and the process. I'm learning so much about Jason through this process as well. I always knew that he would be a great partner through this process, but these classes are opening my eyes up to the fact that he is the one and only for me. He knows me. He really truly knows me, and he gets me. Just his presence soothes me and when I am feeling unsure or worried about something he eases my fears. He's also my biggest supporter. Know one believes in me more than Jason does and it feels so good to know that he believes in me. And I'm also learning just how much he loves me and the baby. These classes are fantastic and so worth the time and money spent to not only learn about the process and how to respond but to also learn so much more about myself, my husband and coach, and our baby. Tonight we focus on stage one of labor and the coaches role in it. So cool!!!!

WEEK 24: FETAL HEARING

Your baby weighs more than a pound and a half right now and sports a crown-to-rump length of about eight and a half inches (standard letter size!). Wondering what (and who) your baby will look like? If you had a baby cam at 24 weeks pregnant, you'd almost be able to tell by now. That beautiful face (though still tiny) is almost fully formed. What's still missing from the picture is the fat that will be piled on under baby's skin. Until those fat deposits are made, that very tender skin is still very transparent, which means a close look would let you see clear through to all the organs, bones, and blood vessels. Fortunately, that see-through look won't last much longer. Babies at this stage of fetal development are gaining about six ounces each week — with much of that gain coming from fat, in addition to growing organs, bones, and muscle.
What's been playing on your little rocker's stereo system these days? All kinds of sounds can be heard by your baby in your womb: from air exhaling from your lungs (deep breath now), those gastric gurgles produced by your stomach and intestines, your voice and your partner's (which your baby will be able to recognize at birth), and even very loud sounds such as honking horns, barking dogs, or a wailing fire truck.

24 WEEK ULTRASOUND -- 22 WEEKS OLD MILES!!!!

Here he is -- our sweet little Miles at 24 weeks of pregnancy!!! He is simply the most beautiful little boy ever to be concieved!!! In my VERY humble opinion!!!! He has such perfectly proportioned little features and appears to be a gorgeous mix of both his mommy and his daddy!!! He has a sweet little heart shaped face and full lips. He's got the sweetest little button nose and round ears. I love love love his everything!!! He did the cutest thing while we were watching him.... he pulled his lower lip into his mouth and started sucking on it. I swear Jason does this very same thing when he's thinking or working on music. He's already starting to take after his daddy. He also had a small fascination with his penis, which I assure you is not a trait that belongs to his mother. All in all he is a beautiful and healthy little boy and I can't wait until the day that I can hold him in my arms and gaze at his sweet face!!! I love you Miles Alexander-Bernero Koiter!!!! I will love you always!!!

EXPERIENCING MILD CONTRACTIONS!!!!

So we have recently had a scare that thankfully turned out to be nothing!!! I began experiencing contractions and pressure at my cervix that was very alarming!!! I called my midwife and she examined me and I am relieved to report that there is no sign of dilation. The baby is still safe and sound in his uteran bubble and we were able to hear his heart beating once again. He even kicked the doppler twice. My midwife suspected that a urinary tract infection may be the cause of the contractions and pressure, but a visit to my back-up OB confirmed that there is no infection present. I am relegated for the time being to staying off of my feet and drinking plenty of fluids. I'll do whatever they want me to do as long as I know that it will keep my sweet little baby Miles safe and sound.

So, I finally got off of my butt and set up registries for our sweet little boy. I was dreading having to go through the process of figuring out everything that we would need to bring our a little guy home to, but, it was actually kind of fun and now it's done. WEEK 21: STRETCH MARKS

Your baby is grazing on whatever you are right now, but those stretch marks are yours alone, Mom.How big is your baby? About the size of a large banana — and speaking of bananas, if you eat one this week, there's a good chance your baby will get a taste, too. That's because he swallows a bit of amniotic fluid each day (for nutrition, hydration, and to practice digesting), so he eats whatever's on your menu. In other (not so welcome) news, you may start to notice some stretch marks as your body expands and your belly and breasts just keep on growing. These pink, red, or purple streaks appear when the supporting tissue under your skin gets torn as skin stretches (and stretches and stretches) during pregnancy. Not every woman gets them, though you're a likely candidate if your mom had stretch marks during her pregnancy or if you've gained weight rapidly.

OUR TWENTY WEEK BELLY PIC!!!

Here's my belly in all of it's 5 month glory!!! I'm really starting to show now and perfect strangers are asking me how far along I am. Finally, everyone else is beginning to notice!!!! Of course, there were the girls at the pool the other day who I chatted with for about 20 minutes and frolicked in front who didn't even realize I was pregnant until I got ready to leave. Go figure -- a 5 month pregnant gal in a bikini and they never knew -- I'll take that as a compliment!!! I'm feeling like a million bucks and really enjoying this part of the pregnancy. I'm showing enough that I feel beautiful and pregnant, but I'm still small enough that I'm not experiencing any of the aches and pains yet. Most of my shirts still fit at this point and my maternity shirts are still too big to wear. I am sporting quite a few pairs of belly band jeans (as you can see in the photo) and I'm loving it!!!! They are the most comfortable pants on the planet. And the baby agrees -- he doesn't like anything too tight pressing against my uterus. He gives some pretty decent kicks/punches if I'm wearing something tight or sitting bent over. He really likes his space. I love feeling him kick and move around in there. It feels almost like a fish swimming around in my belly!!!! It's so miraculous. Other than that -- I have to pee a lot and I miss sleeping on my back and stomach -- everything else is just life as usual!!!! Oh yeah -- and the Braxton Hicks -- and I should mention that Jason is so excited about the baby and me being pregnant. He makes me feel like a gorgeous pregnant goddess and he can't stop putting his hands on the baby and talking to him!!! He's already a proud and loving daddy!!!!

LET'S TALK BRAXTON HICKS.....

So it turns out that my uterus is apparently just as competitive as I am in my athletic life. Just as I used to run daily to practice for upcoming runs and marathons, my uterus practices daily for the upcoming labor. I swear at least once a day my uterus painlessly contracts and becomes like a rock in my abdomen. It freaked me out at first, and then I thought maybe it was the baby just pushing against me, and finally with research I came to learn that what I was experiencing were the ever famous braxton hicks contractions. I admit that it seems very early for such contractions, especially since I started experiencing them at 16 weeks, but it turns out that the uterus starts practicing like this as early as 7 weeks. Most people just can't feel them. I, however, can. My midwife says it's completely normal, and since I'm not experiencing any pain, patterns, or predictability (the three p's) I feel confidant that my uterus is just "getting in shape" for the big day. What a determined little organ!!!!

THE NURSERY'S BEFORE PICTURES

Now that we are officially moved in and all of the boxes have been emptied and moved to the trash bins, we finally have the time to focus on decorating the baby's room. As you can see the furniture that Nana Bernero bought for our little guy has arrived and we successfully put it together!!! The crib and dresser/changing table are so beautiful. The chocolate wood really pops in the room and I can't wait to see what it looks when all is said and done. As you can see from the pictures -- as of about a week ago -- this was what the nursery looked like at it's very beginning stages. I am excited to say that nana, Jason, and I have begun making changings to the room and the transformation is beginning to take place. Of course you can't see it until it's completely finished, but that shouldn't be too long!!! I can tell you that the red chair, fireplace, and rug are no longer in the room and have been replace with more appropriate items. 18 WEEKS: BABY BEGINS TO HEAR

How your life's changing:Hungry? An increase in appetite is pretty common about now. NURSERY FURNITURE!!!!

Now that we know the sex of the baby and we are finally moved in enough to even think about it -- we can start decorating the nursery!!! I have had my heart set on an elegant neutral toned nursery for months now and with the help of nana bernero I think we have figured it out!!! Mom found the most adoreable bedding from Pottery Barn Kids (pictured first) in beautiful shades of white and tan, covered in the most adoreable lambs!!!! We both fell in love with it immediately and decided that was it -- that was to be the theme in the nursery. Now Jason and I will be able to welcome home our little "lambie" into a beautiful lamb themed boudiour!!! We've been scouring the net for wall decals similar to the tree in the photo (cause it looks so amazing) and, thanks to Nana, we are awaiting the arrival of a beautiful lifetime crib and changing table/dresser (pictured second) in the most gorgeous chocolate brown!!! Thank you so much for the incredible gift mom!!! I know the baby will love it -- especially when he's old enough to tell us the lambs have to go and to roll in the race cars or hot chicks!!! ;0)!!!! And by chicks I mean flaming baby chickens!!! Anyhow -- we're going to add a ton of great little touches and the room should be fit for a little prince!!! OUR LITTLE PRINCE!!!! MY 17 WEEKS AND 4 DAYS BABY BUMP!!!

Hi everyone!!! I'm sorry I totally missed taking our 16 week baby bump picture!!!! We just got our camera unpacked, and I finally found our memory card -- sooooooooooo -- here it is at last!!!! We are nearly 18 weeks pregnant and our little boy is kicking and flipping like mad!!! I swear it feels like he's doing taebo in there!!! I love it though -- and Jason loves it too (when he get's lucky enough to feel the baby move). The weirdest part is when the baby has shifted to one side of my belly and I have a completely lopsided bump!!! It's the most hilarious thing I've ever seen. He's leanin' in there!!!! I love him!!!

Our midwife came by last week for our 16 week prenatal appointment and we listened to the baby's heartbeat. Wow what a ticker!!! I think she said that it was beating something like 148 beats per minute!!!! She also said that my weight gain is perfect -- having put on 5 pounds since our last appointment!!! According to all the charts I have about 20 to 30 pounds more to go!!!!

My rash is all but gone!!! I still have a few patches here and there that itch like mad -- but nothing like it was in previous weeks!!! I think my hormones have leveled out and I've had a chance to get used to amount of progesterone surging through my body. I don't care what the reason is -- I'm just glad not to be itching from head to toe.

I think that's about it for now. My brain is fried and I really want some mac n' cheese!!! Time to sign off!!!

IT'S CONFIRMED: WE'RE HAVING A BOY!!!!

It's official!!! Our 16 week ultra-sound has confirmed what we suspected 4 weeks ago!!! We're having a boy!!! It's such a wonderful feeling to say.... "Our Son"!!!!

It wasn't easy for the ultrasound tech to get a good view of our little guy's "little guy", since he was very shy and curled up in a little ball face down. Every time the tech tried to get him to move he'd throw a little punch or kick, but he wasn't gonna budge. Apparently 6pm is well into nappy time for our boy!!!

After about 10 minutes of nudging and changing positions, we were finally able to get a solid view of what I like to call his "three leaf clover". I was told that if it were a girl there would be three lines instead of three circles.

So there you have it -- we've finally discovered what all of us have been dying to know since that little pregnancy test turned up positive!!! Now we can all go shopping!!!! YAY!!!!

WEEK 16: BABY'S HEARING DEVELOPS

Listen up: Tiny bones in your fetus's ears are in place this week, making it likely that the baby can hear your voice when you're speaking (or singing in the shower)at 16 weeks pregnant. In fact, studies have found that babies who are sung to while they're in the womb recognize the same tune when it's sung to them after they are born (so choose your baby Muzak with that in mind…). And baby's busily boning up in other ways. For one, the backbone (along with the back muscles) is stronger now — strong enough, in fact, to enable your baby to work on straightening his or her head and neck even more. Baby's crown-to-rump measurement is between four and five inches in length, and weight is hovering around three ounces.
This little one's a looker — with a face that has both eyebrows and eyelashes — but a skinny looker since there's no baby fat yet. And here's the skinny on baby skin: It's practically translucent now, so if you took a peek inside your uterus, you'd be able to see your baby's blood vessels under that thin skin

SORRY ABOUT THE DELAYED POSTINGS

We moved this weekend and we have finally gotten the last of our belongings out of the old place and into the new place. We're still in limbo with our cable, gas, and utilities -- so I have not been able to get online to post!!! I have to admit that we have been so busy that if I didn't have this baby bump and sciatic pain I may have forgotten that I was pregnant all together. I wish that I could say that I have been taking it easy -- but that would be a lie. Despite all of Jason's best efforts -- I could not be stopped from "chipping in"!!! My perfectionist personality would not allow me to just sit idly by while everyone else did all the work!!! Now my butt is really paying for it. With the pressure from the baby and the added stress of bending and lifting I have done a real number on my sciatic nerve. I'm pretty sure that I have piriformis syndrome -- which just means that the piriformis muscle in my gluteus maximus is strangling the nerve. Translation??? VERY VERY VERY PAINFUL!!!! Forget any kind of lateral movements!!! So -- there you have -- the reason I haven't posted. Thanks for your patience!!! I will update on week 16 !!!

WEEK 15: BABY KICKING AND CURLING

Curious why your body is finally looking like it's pregnant? That's because your baby is growing bigger each week — he or she is as long as four and a half inches right now. Need a better visual (and a snack)? Hold a large navel orange in your hand — that's how big your little darlin' is at 15 weeks pregnant. (Now that you're done looking, peel that orange and eat it for a delicious two servings of vitamin C!). So what keeps your baby busy all day? Mostly, your fetus is in rehearsals — practice, practice, practicing, and getting ready for that big debut. Babies practice breathing, sucking, and swallowing so that when they leave your comfy womb and move into your comfy house, they'll have the skills necessary to survive.

Fetal body movements continue to get practice this week, too. But because your baby weighs so little (a bit over two ounces), you won't feel the calisthenics going on inside your abdominal gym. But don't let that fool you. Your fetus is holding daily aerobics classes — kicking, curling toes, and moving those little arms and legs.

And with each passing week, your fetus is looking more and more like the baby you're picturing in your dreams. By now, the ears are positioned properly on the sides of the head (they used to be in the neck) and the eyes are moving from the side of the head to the front of the face — where they'll soon meet your loving gaze.

He/She's busy moving amniotic fluid through his/her nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in his/her lungs begin to develop. His/Her legs are growing longer than her arms now, and he/she can move all of her joints and limbs. Although her eyelids are still fused shut, she can sense light. If you shine a flashlight at your tummy, for instance, he/she's likely to move away from the beam. There's not much for your baby to taste at this point, but she is forming taste buds. Finally, if you have an ultrasound this week, you may be able to find out whether your baby's a boy or a girl! (Don't be too disappointed if it remains a mystery, though. Nailing down your baby's sex depends on the clarity of the picture and on your baby's position. He or she may be modestly curled up or turned in such a way as to "hide the goods.")

WE'RE UP TO OUR EYEBALLS IN MOVING BOXES!!!

Sorry about the recent lack of posts. Jason and I have been hauling our little butts trying to get everything ready for our big move next weekend. We get the keys to our new place on Wednesday and the Olson's arrive Thursday night to help us lug our belongings across town -- soooooooooo -- the clock is definately ticking down!!! I'm pretty sure that we are going to have an easy time of it when moving day finally arrives -- we've really tried to get as much done now as we can. When we ran out of stuff to pack in boxes we turned our efforts toward patching holes and touching up the paint. There really hasn't been much time to even think about being pregnant let alone blog about it!!! So I apologize for the slow week and I promise that once we get moved in there will be a ton more updates. As for now -- I feel great!!! I've got my energy back as evidenced by the amount of work I was able to accomplish this weekend. My belly hasn't budged an inch. I'm still sporting the same size bump, but I can feel the round ligaments and the muscles in that area stretching and moving like mad!!! Week 14 has been really delightful and I'm looking forward to week 16 and our gender determination ultrasound on April 17th!!! I can't wait to find out!!! Only 2 weeks!!!!

WEEK 14: HORMONES GEAR UP

The effect of hormones becomes apparent this week. For boys, the prostate gland is developing. For girls, the ovaries move from the abdomen into the pelvis.
Meconium — which will become your baby's first bowel movement after birth — is made in your baby's intestinal tract. By the end of the week, the roof of your baby's mouth will be completely formed.

Your baby's body systems are starting to work on their own. The digestive system practices moving food along the intestines and through the renal system and he can create and eliminate urine. He also continues to practice breathing the amniotic fluid in and out of his lungs. Your baby has tiny, soft nails on his fingers and toes, is growing hair and may even suck his thumb. Your baby is approximately 10-11.5 cm (3 1/2 -4 inches) and weighs approximately 1.5 ounces.
Also, your baby's blood is beginning to form in the bone marrow and blood vessels are beginning to connect various parts of the fetus to another. The joints and muscles allow your baby full body movement so your baby is able to move around. The baby's neck is getting longer and his chin is no longer resting on his chest. The eyes and ears continue to move into place. The hands are becoming functional and reflex movements often occur. Nourishment now comes from the placenta. Remember, some of what you eat and drink is getting through to your baby. The doctor can tell if your baby is a boy or a girl using special tests.
Amniotic fluid is an amazing substance. It completely regenerates itself every three hours. We do know that it is partially composed of urine from the baby, but where amniotic fluid in general is made we are not sure. Modern medicine still has some surprises left.

MY 13.5 WEEK BABY BUMP

Ok -- so I couldn't wait another 2.5 weeks to post a picture of my new and curvy figure. Like I said before -- I went to bed one night with a fairly flat tummy and woke up the next morning with this very obvious baby bump. I'm pretty sure that a bump this size shouldn't have popped for another few weeks, which makes me quite certain that this is going to be one very large baby!!! That's not really too surprising considering that Jason was born weighing in just over 10lbs and I was just over 8lbs. I don't think I can escape it!!! It's amazing how tight and sore belly feels already and I still have 6.5 months to go. What an incredible journey this is going to be!!! I have to admit that I'm pretty excited about showing off my bump -- I love it -- except when I've over eaten and I feel like I'm going to burst!!! OUCHIE!!!! ;0)

A co-worker and new mom recently gave me a list of uber cool online baby stores to check out in case I was in the market for some trendy duds!!! Well -- I am -- and these stores do indeed carry some of the coolest baby clothes around. My baby (boy or girl) will have these ridiculously adorable chuck taylor knock-offs!!! Lately, I've been envisioning our little angel in the coolest and trendiest t-shirts, jeans, and hoodies. I see our little guy rocking some rock star duds and a faux-hawk -- or our little princess in some mini chucks, leggings, and an A/C D/C shirt!!!! I know that some people may like the more traditional stores -- and don't get me wrong -- they have cute stuff -- but I am so drawn to dressing our baby like a little rockstar!!! MY BELLY HAS OFFICIALLY "POPPED"!!!

The baby bump that once existed only in my head has officially popped out for all to see. Anyone who doesn't know me might think that I have a sweet little bubble belly -- but those who know me have already begun commenting on my baby bump!!! I've already heard -- "Whoa -- where the heck did that come from -- did it pop out over night?" and "awe -- look -- you're showing!!!" and "wow -- so you really are pregnant". I'm feeling slightly conflicted about it at the moment as I have never -- in my life -- had anything that even remotely looked like a "belly". I'm so excited to finally have physical proof that our little one is growing rabidly inside of me -- but I'm also feeling a sense of loss for my once trim and svelt tummy. I will say this -- I love rubbing the baby -- I love having the round belly that says -- "Hey -- I'm gestating, here!!!" It really is a cool experience and I know that in a couple of days I will have forgotten all about the near perfect belly that I had just yesterday!!! I look at this way - no one ever wanted to rub my belly when it was just home to my guts. Now everyone can't keep their hands off of me -- well -- off of my belly at least...;0) It's Jason that can't keep his hands off of me -- he seems to think I'm pretty darn "belly-licous"!!! What a sweet man!!! Anyhow, I'm not gonna post a picture just yet -- I'm gonna wait until 16 weeks like I had planned that way I will be uber showing!!!

WEEK 13: BABY FLEXES AND KICKS

HOW YOUR BABY IS GROWING:

Fingerprints have formed on your baby's tiny fingertips, her veins and organs are clearly visible through her still-thin skin, and her body is starting to catch up with her head — which makes up just a third of her body size now. If you're having a girl, she now has more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries. Your baby is almost 3 inches long (the size of a medium shrimp) and weighs nearly an ounce.

You can't feel it yet, but your baby can move in a jerky fashion — flexing the arms and kicking the legs. This week, your baby might even be able to put a thumb in his or her mouth.

Your baby's eyelids are fused together to protect his or her developing eyes. Tissue that will become bone is developing around your baby's head and within the arms and legs. Tiny ribs may soon appear.

I LOVE THESE MATERNITY JEANS!!!

Ok -- it may not be obvious to anyone else -- but my belly is definately growing and my pre-pregnancy jeans don't lie!!! Even though they fit my butt and legs -- I can barely squeeze the button closed around my waist!!! OUCH!!! So, Jay and I went over to Target and I tried on several pairs of very unflattering maternity jeans. I was horrified. How could pregnant women be expected to suffer the humiliation of spending 9 months draped in such heinous attire??? There had to be something else. I mean -- the back side of these jeans made me look like I had the bum of a 60 year old woman. No offense to 60 year old women -- but my 29 year old ego would like to maintain my 29 year old derrier!!! So nana and I headed over to A Pea in the Pod this afternoon where I was greeted with dozens of butt friendly designer jeans that looked and felt fabulous!!! I fell in love. I wasn't sure that I would be able to tolerate maternity attire let alone love it -- but here I stand -- a woman deeply in love with her new designer digs!!! I mean -- pull-up jeans with an elastic belly band???? Ingenious!!!! I may never wear a regular pair of jeans again!!!! And -- I have my mom to thank for my new jeans and t-shirts!!! Thank you so much mom for treating me to the most comfortable clothes I have ever worn in my life!!! Yoou are the best!!!! And the baby thanks you too!!!!

MUSIC TO SOOTHE AND INSPIRE OUR LITTLE ONE

I know that our sweet angel's little ears are still not fully developed yet, but when he/she moved every time I laughed -- I knew that they were aware!!! very aware. So I began furiously searching my itunes for music that I could play for the baby. I wanted to create several playlists that could be used at various times. I wanted music to lull the baby to sleep at night, and music to wake up to, and music to inspire the baby, and music to help with brain developement. I have a small set so far, including: Bach for Breakfast, Baby Genius: Classical Music For Intelligence, Baby Genius: Classical Music to Fall Asleep To, Spirit Flutes, and some new age electronica with a Feng Shui vibe. I know that our collection will grow as my belly grows and that we will be able to incorporate diverse and stimulating sounds for our little ones ears!!! I wonder if the Beatles could inspire a future mini musician???? Or Hodges??? I wonder if our little one would dig on American as much as I do!?!?! Time will tell.

THE FIRST TRIMESTER IS COMPLETE

I am so relieved that we have finally moved past the delicate first trimester!!! Jason spent a few nights calming me and my fears about the possibilities of what could go wrong in those first few months, and here we are now, as proud as any two parents could be about our beautiful healthy baby. I have been one of the lucky few that suffered very minimally through the first three months, and even though I still have this rash, I know that it could all have been a lot worse. I had very little nausea to speak of, a handful of migrains, fatigue, and a rash. That's it. And let me tell you how worth it it all was just to see our precious little angel yesterday!!! I am so in love with our baby -- and I fell even deeper in love with my husband as I witnessed him literally glowing with joy as he watched our child. OUR CHILD!!! It was such a blessing to see the life that we created together (with God's help of course) on that TV monitor.

Today begins our journey through the second trimester, and I am looking forward with even greater joy to the months that lie ahead. I am also looking forward to not being quite as tired. If I can make it through and afternoon without nodding I will be one happy camper!!!

OUR BABY'S FIRST PICTURES!!!

The moment we have all been waiting for has finally arrived!!! Look at how beautiful our sweet little angel is!!! The Doctor told us that he was very happy with the scan and that the baby looks very healthy!!! What a relief!!! I was also relieved to learn that this wasn't all just in my head. I had this weird irrational fear that somehow there just wouldn't be anything in there. That couldn't have been farther from reality. As soon as the tech starting scanning the baby started flipping over and flexing it's hands and stretching out it's arms and legs. I was so shocked to see the baby moving so much and so well this early on. What a treat. I was also shocked at how developed the baby is already. I think we had all envisioned something between a human and a tadpole. Not that sweet little face with those perfect arms and legs (with all the appropriate digits)!!! Nana and Jason were all tears of joy in the room and I couldn't hold em back either. Wish everyone could have been there to experience it with us!!!

WEEK 12: BABY'S FINGERNAILS AND TOENAILS APPEAR!!!

Twelve weeks into your pregnancy, your baby is nearly 3 inches long and weighs about 4/5 of an ounce and is about the size of plum. Your baby's head is nearly half the size of his or her entire body.
This week marks the arrival of fingernails and toenails. Your baby's chin and nose will become more refined as well.

THIS SOUNDS LIKE ME!!!

3 MONTHS PREGNANT!!!!

Ok -- so we're not officially 3 months pregnant until tomorrow, but we're having a sleepover tonight at nana's house and tomorrow night we have a dinner date with Trace and Dawn Ann -- so we had to race to take this picture first thing this morning. Hence the puffy hair and face!!!! I taken much more flattering pictures -- but I can safely say that I had only been awake for 4 minutes -- so I look pretty darn good!!! LOL. So -- as you can see -- still not much of a bump and this picture was taken before my morning "ritual". And no I don't mean my makeup. My stomach is feeling pretty tight and my uterus has definately popped up above my pubic bone which has pushed all of my other organs up and out a tiny bit -- giving me the slight bump that you see here. My pants are definately starting fit tighter now (especially my jeans that have no stretch to them), but I'm still in my pre-pregnancy clothes. No cute maternity attire yet!!! I think next months pictures are going to be very exciting!!! I believe there will be much "popping" to photograph in a few more weeks!!!!

198 DAYS UNTIL OUR DUE DATE!!!!

I can't believe that I didn't realize that we have less than 200 days until our due date!!!! I've been watching that little ticker every day up until this weekend. I got so sidetracked with packing up the townhome that I completely forgot that we were nearing the 199 day marker!!! Now look -- only 198 days left!!!! Can't wait till we hit 99!!!

WE BOUGHT OUR FIRST PACKAGE OF DIAPERS & WIPES!!!

It's official -- we have purchased our first package of Newborn Diapers!!!! No -- the jumbo size 4 diapers in the picture are not the ones we bought!!! LOL. Could you imagine the mess we would have on our hands when our newborn soiled those ginormo diedie's??? LOLOL!!!! I must admit that it felt a little weird purchasing diapers 7 months in advanced -- but we have agreed to stock up on diapers over the next several months so that we are at least somewhat prepared for the baby's arrival. We agreed that we will combine disposable diapers with cloth diapers at least until it's time to start potty training. We plan on using the disposables at night and when we're out and about, and we will stick to the cloth diapers during the day and if/when diaper rash occurs. I've been told that cloth diapers are the way to go when trying to potty train as they are non-absorbant and the baby feels the wetness and -- ummmmmm -- stickiness??? So -- we have several more months of cloth and disposable diaper shopping to go -- should be a blast!!! I can't wait until we can start buying clothes!!!!!

WE'RE MOVING..... AGAIN!!!

When we first talked about having a baby we thought that we would just set up a crib in the corner of our bedroom and that the baby would stay with us until we got a bigger place. That was until my nesting instincts kicked in. I woke up one morning and just had to have a nursery. That was it. We needed 3 bedrooms and the itch would not stop until I got my way. So we began the hunt for a bigger home. The hunt led us down many paths -- including nearly purchasing a new home to rentals 25 miles into the mountains!!! We finally landed on a newly built 1,500 sq. ft., 3 bedroom, luxury apartment on the other side of town. We are getting out of Canyon Country and moving over to Valencia. The place is big and beautiful!!!! The bathrooms both have rounded tubs and the living room has crown molding. The kitchen is brand spanking new and the cabinets actually close!!! The complex has a swimming pool, business center, fitness center, children's playground, and dog park. Plus!!! PLUS!!! IT HAS 3 BEDROOMS!!! I will have my nursery!!! Oh joy!!! Now all we have to do is pack and move out by April 15!!!! I'm exhausted just thinking about it -- but it will be so worth it to have a nursery for our little blueberry!!! I think the baby may be bigger than blueberry by now -- actually I think I read somewhere that it's now the size of a large lime!!! Hmmmmm -- our little lime.

WEEK 11: BABY'S SEX MAY BE APPARENT

From now until your 20th week of pregnancy -- the halfway mark -- your baby will increase his or her weight 30 times and will about triple in length. To make sure your baby gets enough nutrients, the blood vessels in the placenta are growing much larger and multiplying.

Your baby is now officially described as a fetus. Your baby's ears are moving up and to the side of the head this week. By the end of the week, your baby's external genitalia will develop into a recognizable penis or clitoris.

I know. I know. It looks like a bucket. Or as one woman wrote online -- a garbage can. But, apparently these have been used by Euro mums for quite some time and most of the reviewers and the website boast that babies who are normally fussy about baths love this little tub!!!

I know it's a little early for deciding baby names -- especially since we don't even know what the baby's sex is -- but we couldn't help ourselves. CLOTH VS. DISPOSABLE DIAPERS

Ah -- the endless debate of Cloth vs. Disposable Diapers!!! I must admit that I myself have battled back and forth with the notion of which would be better to use. Let's just start with the obvious aesthetic fact -- cloth diapers are waaaaaay cuter!!!! They have cloth diapers covers that come in the most adoreable designs and colors. Disposable diapers are -- well -- you know what they look like. So -- what about the other more important factors? Like cost.

Cost estimates show that disposable diapers will run approximately $50 to $80 per month, using a diaper service will cost approximately $50 to $80 per month and laundering your own cloth diapers will cost slightly less at approximately $25 to $60 per month.
In general, if you compare the cost of the fancier high tech disposable diapers to the cost of laundering your own cloth diapers, you will save money by using cloth diapers and laundering them yourself.

And what about skin care and & heatlth concerns? The greatest concern for parents is to keep their baby’s skin dry, healthy and free from diaper rash. Many things can cause diaper rash. Prolonged wetness, lack of air circulation, soap, chemical and dye allergies, ammonia formed by bacteria that interacts with urine left sitting against the skin and the growth of microbes in the diaper area can all be irritating and cause rashes. Some concerns about disposable diapers have been about dyes, sodium polyacrylate (the super absorbent gel), and dioxin, which is a by-product of bleaching paper. Sodium polyacrylate has been linked in the past to toxic shock syndrome, allergic reactions and is very harmful and potentially lethal to pets. Some dyes and dioxin according to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) is known to cause damage to the central nervous system, kidneys, and liver. The (FDA) Food & Drug Administration has received reports that fragrances in disposables caused headaches, dizziness and rashes. Problems reported to the Consumer Protection Agency regarding disposables include, chemical burns, noxious chemical and insecticide odors, babies pulling disposables apart and putting pieces of plastic into their noses and mouth, choking on tab papers and linings, plastic melting onto the skin, and ink staining the skin. Plastic tabs can also tear skin if the diaper is not properly put on the baby. On the other hand cloth diapers can cause rashes by not being changed enough or properly cleaned and sanitized after becoming soiled.

Lastly -- the convenience factor. With the newer style of cloth diapers that are on the market, disposable diapers are not much more convenient that cloth diapers. The new multiple layer, Velcro fastening cloth diapers are just as easy to put on and take off as disposables. Cloth diapers do not really need to be presoaked, or even rinsed out. Flushable liners can be used with cloth diapers that let you lift the soiled liner off the cloth and flush the liner and the poop down the toilet. If you don’t use liners, you can just dump the older baby’s solids down the toilet. Cloth diapers usually only add about 2 extra loads of laundry a week to your schedule.
Disposable diapers are more convenient when traveling because you can just throw the dirty diapers away without carrying them around for washing. Disposables also require fewer changes because of the super absorbent materials; but taking into consideration the increased risks of rash , the decision should be made with much thought.

So all that said and done -- cloth diapers sound like the more responsible and cost effective choice. However, the disposables are still calling my name. I guess it's the lazy gal in me hoping to save some time and energy!!!! What to do. I have a feeling I'll use both!!!

STUDY REVEALS: BABIES ARE STUPID

LOS ANGELES--A surprising new study released Monday by UCLA's Institute For Child Development revealed that human babies, long thought by psychologists to be highly inquisitive and adaptable, are actually extraordinarily stupid.
The study, an 18-month battery of intelligence tests administered to over 3,500 babies, concluded categorically that babies are "so stupid, it's not even funny."
According to Institute president Molly Bentley, in an effort to determine infant survival instincts when attacked, the babies were prodded in an aggressive manner with a broken broom handle. Over 90 percent of them, when poked, failed to make even rudimentary attempts to defend themselves. The remaining 10 percent responded by vacating their bowels.
"It is unlikely that the presence of the babies' fecal matter, however foul-smelling, would have a measurable defensive effect against an attacker in a real-world situation," Bentley said.
Another test, in which the infants were placed on a mound of dirt outdoors during a torrential downpour, produced similarly bleak results.
"The chicken, dog and even worm babies that we submitted to the test as a control group all had enough sense to come in from the rain or, at least, seek shelter under a leafy clump of vegetation or outcropping of rock," test supervisor Thomas Howell said. "The human babies, on the other hand, could not grasp even this incredibly basic concept, instead merely lying on the ground and making gurgling noises."
According to Howell, almost 60 percent of the infants tested in this manner eventually drowned.
Some of the babies tested were actually so stupid that they choked to death on pieces of Micronaut space toys. Others, unable to use such primitive instruments as can openers and spoons due to insufficient motor skills, simply starved to death, despite being surrounded by cabinets full of nutritious, life-giving Gerber-brand baby-food products.
Babies, the study concluded, are also too stupid to do the following: avoid getting their heads trapped in automatic car windows; use ice to alleviate the pain of burn injuries resulting from touching an open flame; master the skills required for scuba diving; and use a safety ladder to reach a window to escape from a room filled with cyanide gas.
"As a mother of four, I find these results very disheartening," Bentley told reporters. "I can honestly say that the effort I have expended trying to raise my children into intelligent beings may have been entirely wasted--a fool's dream, if you will."
Study results also prompted a strong reaction from President Clinton. "All of us, on some primitive, mammalian level, feel a great sense of pride in our offspring," Clinton said. "It is now clear, however, that these feelings are unfounded. Given the overwhelming evidence of their profound stupidity, we have no choice but to replace our existing infant population with artificially incubated simu-drones, with the eventual goal of phasing out the shamefully stupid human baby forever."

LET'S TALK FOOD AVERSIONS & CRAVINGS

So -- the infamous pregnancy food aversions/cravings have definately snuck their way into my life. I wouldn't say that they are in any way exciting or weird, though. Actually, they are quite boring. I pretty much get nauseous (very mildly) if I think about eating. I just have to do it and not think about it. I can't eat a whole lot of meat. For some reason I can get down about 3 or 4 bites of meat before my stomach tells me -- "Hey, that's enough"!!! I crave very bland foods with cheese. Bagels and cream cheese, macaroni and cheese, pasta with olive oil and parmesan, sliced bread with cheese -- you get the picture. I love plain and chunky oatmeal, a bowl of Cheerio's or Lucky Charms, and fruit. Any fruit will do. I crave crave crave Orange Juice, but I can only drink about 3 ounces of it before I my stomach starts to flip. Oh -- and I still love me some Rubio's Burritos and Tapatio!!! Now, don't get me wrong, when I say that my stomach flips or that I get nauseous -- I don't mean "morning sickness" style. I have been very lucky in that regard. I was hit with about a week of mild "motion sickness" and then set free. It's hard to explain how the food makes me feel. It's just a really slight icky feeling in the pit of my stomach. So for 10 weeks preggers -- I'm feeling incredible -- oh -- minus the rash -- which I still have ;0(!!!!
